Jammu, May 12: The centrally sponsored Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) has not been implemented properly in the state as the girls hostel scheme is yet to be implemented. The Union HRD Ministry has approved 68 hostels in the state but the work on these has yet to be taken up. The Vocational education approved in 2013-14 for 132 schools has yet to begin. This was disclosed during a Project Approval Board Meeting of RMSA under the chairmanship of Secretary, School Education and Literacy (SE&L), HRD Ministry. The meeting was held to approve the annual plan for the year 2015-16.
The sources said that only 153 schools were completed out of 636 new schools approved under RMSA and 110 secondary schools are not functional out of these 636 new schools. In these newly upgraded schools there were only 58 percent teachers and 42 percent are vacant.
The sources said that during the meeting SE&L Secretary expressed his concern over the slow pace of the implementation of RMSA in state. The Education Secretary present in the meeting has said that the officials are putting their efforts to complete the works. On the recruitment issue, Education Secretary said that vacancies under RMSA would be filled soon, the sources added.
