BUDGAM : The Returning Officer(RO) for Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, Mr. Farooq Ahmed Shah today visited Budgam district to review the arrangements put in place in the district for smooth conduct of Lok Sabha Elections-2014.
District Election Officer, Budgam, Mr. Khurshid Ahmed Shah, Assistant Returning Officers of various Assembly segments and Nodal Officers of the district Budgam were also present in the review meeting.
The Returning Officer was informed about the measures taken by District Election Officer, Budgam for the smooth conduct and fair elections including transportation of election material and EVMs, besides deployment of magistrates and polling staff for poll duty. He was also informed that randomization of EVMs and polling staff has been completed in the district besides voter slips have been distributed by Booth Level Officers.
On the occasion, Mr. Shah instructed the officers to ensure that mock poll is conducted an hour before the polling starts, at each of the 540 polling booths in the district. He directed that final electoral rolls shall be distributed among polling parties as well as political parties on April 26, 2014 and also urged for timely distribution and collection of EVMs.
District Election Officer further informed that Flying Squads and Surveillance teams have been constituted and the district has been divided into five zones and 49 sub sectors with 49 magistrates deployed on duty in each sub sector.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer, who is also Nodal Officer for transportation informed the meeting that 190 buses, 5 trucks and 57 Sumos have been arranged for carrying polling staff and election material for polling duty on April 30, 2014.
It was also given out in the meeting that election duty certificates for poll personnel shall be issued on April 27, 2014 so that they are able to cast their votes on the booths where they shall be deployed on duty.
