Rs. 1383 Cr spent on PHE, I&FC in Valley: Sham

Sham Lal Dec 20SRINAGAR : Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma Friday asked the PHE Engineers to install water meters in all the localities fed by PHE department besides speed up the revenue collection from the consumers of the State so that the department concerned is in a position to execute the development works efficiently.
The Minister was addressing an officers meeting here today convened to take stock of the functioning of PHE department of Valley.
The Minister impressed upon officers to speed up the pace of execution of various works so that the benefit of the schemes percolates down to the grass root level.
During comprehensive review of various schemes, the meeting was told that work on 596 Water Supply Schemes (WSS) has been taken in hand, out of which 33 WSS have been completed  cost of Rs. 107.09 crore. The Minister was informed that 227 habitations with a population of 1.34 lakh souls have been covered during current fiscal under PHE sector while as work on rest projects is under execution.
The meeting was further informed that 935 hand pumps were set up in the valley while as drinking water facility was extended to 1938 education institutions. As many as Rs. 601.86 crore were spent on the execution of WSS under PHE sector.
Reviewing the Irrigation sector in the Valley, the Minister was informed that out of 272 schemes taken in hand, 65 schemes were completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 624 crore.
In Flood Control sector, 15 flood management programmes were executed out of which 10 schemes were completed against an amount of Rs. 150 crore.
The meeting was attended by Chief Engineers of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control besides other officers of the concerned department.
