Salil Bhatt creates magic with Satvik Veena at SaMaPa Aalap 2014


Salil Bhatt on Satvik Veena performing at SaMaPa Aalap 2014 (2)SaMaPa Aalap Festival (SAF) 2014 on Day 11 featured a magical performance by Pre-Grammy Award nominee Shri Salil Bhatt, creator of the Satvik Veena and winner of prestigious SaMaPa Yuva Ratan Samman 2013. The ongoing fifteen days long premier music festival of J&K being presented by SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Jammu & Kashmir Police and Department of Tourism, Jammu. The concert was attended by over 700 students and music lovers at the Lawrence Public School, Sidhra including Chairman of School Wing Cdr. M.M. Joshi, Founder Principal Mrs. Shakuntala Joshi, Director Sh. Manish Joshi, Vice Principal Smt. Shivani Joshi, Pandit Vijay Shankar Mishra, eminent musicologist, writer and senior music critic of the country, and Vice President of SaMaPa amongst others. Music maestro Abhay Rustum Sopori was also present on the occasion and thanked the Lawrence family for being with SaMaPa in this movement to reach the masses while highlighted SaMaPa’s initiatives and vision under the aegis of its chairman, the great music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori, he asked the young students to adopt music in their daily curriculum. He asked the students to explore the world with their creative and new ideas and contribute to the building of the State and the country.

The function began with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony by the artists and the dignitaries. The young children of the school presented a Saraswati Vandana and a group song. Shri Salil Bhatt, son and disciple of the legendary slide player Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, commenced his recital with brief Aalap- Jod and compositions in Vilambit and Drutlaya Teentaal in Raga Vachaspati. He also presented a Dhun in Raga Desh. He was ably accompanied on Tabla by Shri Kaushik Konwar. Shri Bhatt also had a long interaction session with the students on music, his created instrument and other topics on music. The audience highly appreciated the recital and was mesmerized with the techniques, tempo and the dynamic style of his rendition.

The management of the institute thanked SaMaPa for organizing the concert and enlightening the young children, and felicitated the musicians and the guests with shawls and bouquets.

SAF 2014, which is now reaching its concluding phase will now feature various concerts in Jammu apart from presentations in regions like Poonch and Udampur. The Great Music Legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori will also be performing at the historic Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex on Saturday, the 22nd of February at 6:00 pm, which has specially been organized by the Tourism Department, Jammu.
