Salman fan attempts suicide outside high court
Mumbai: A fan of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan attempted suicide by consuming poison outside the Bombay High Court premises here on Friday.
The 32-year-old fan, identified as G. Kundu, was immediately whisked off by police to a nearby government hospital for treatment and his condition is being monitored.
Kundu purpotedly left a suicide note and a photograph of him touching Salman’s feet.
“The fan was distraught because if Salman does not get bail, his dreams would remain unfulfilled and hence he allegedly consumed poison in the presence of police personnel.”
The incident, which left the security personnel in a tizzy, happened minutes before the Bombay High Court suspended the five-year jail sentence of Salman, paving the way for him to seek a regular bail.
Thousands of Salman fans assembled outside his Bandra residence and the high court premises in south Mumbai where Justice A.M. Thipsay was hearing his bail application against the five-year sentence awarded by Additional Sessions Judge D.W. Deshpande two days ago.
Police have deployed tight security at both venues in view of the huge crowds of fans, celebrities and stars, media contingents and commoners gathered there.
Salman was convicted in the September 2002 accident case in Bandra which had left one person dead and four other pavement dwellers injured.
Arguments by the prosecution and defence are currently underway in the court.
The hearing is crucial for the actor since it is the final working day of the high court before it goes for its annual summer vacation till June 8.
