Sarpanch on anti-encroachment drive thrashed; attackers allegedly led by army man

Kupwara, June 08: A Sarpanch who was on an anti-encroachment drive in a village in frontier district of Kupwara on Friday was badly injured when a group of people attacked him.

A joint party of Revenue and RDD officials at Halmatpora had visited the site when at least when ten land grabbers attacked them and injured the Sarpanch along with other officials.

The team was evacuating six Kanals of state land occupied illegally by one Rehmatullah Khan and others, when the attack took place.

There have been allegations in media reports that the attackers were headed by a soldier of 6 JKLI who was on leave from duty.

Amanullah Khan, the Sarpanch of Halmatpora, according to doctors at SDH Kupwara, has suffered injuries in upper jaw, three teeth, arm and a shoulder.
