Jammu, December 19: The tenure of current State BJP president and the Lok Sabha member from the Jammu-Poonch seat Jugal Kishore Sharma is going to end by this month. The Jammu West MLA Sat Sharma is most likely to take his position as the new president of the state BJP.
As per reliable and highly placed sources, the party may have decided to conduct election for the position of State President on 20th of this month but the sources inside the party suggest that it is a mere formality since the decision has already being made.
Another RSS man and former national president of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Narindra Singh will be contesting for the position but the consensus had reportedly emerged on Sat Sharma. Narindra was deputed in the BJP six months ago to utilise his organisational experience in the party.
Reportedly, Sat Sharma has won the 2014 Assembly elections with more than 50,000 votes and is being seen as the most ideal candidate for the post of BJP State President. As per the party leadership, Sat Sharma has played a tremendous role in the recently held elections of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council.
However, a group of party members which also comprises of two Cabinet ministers was in favour of appointing non-controversial Narindra Singh as the state president. Their argument was, ” Singh was an organisation man, who was at the forefront during the 2008 Amarnath land agitation. ”
Also, another faction of party member demands that the current president Jugal Kishore Sharma should be given another term as a president. According to these members, During Jugal Kishore Sharma’s tenure, BJP had created history by winning three Lok Sabha seats and 25 Assembly seats in the state and providing him another term can prove beneficial for the party.
