Sat Sharma takes over as BJP State President
Jammu, Dec 20: MLA from Jammu West Assembly Constituency, Sat Sharma (CA), who had been holding the post of State Vice President till now, was unanimously elected as new State President of Jammu and Kashmir BJP. His election was announced by BJP National Vice President & Observer for J&K State Shyam Jaju in a large gathering of party State Office Bearers, senior leaders, ministers, MLAs, MLCs and party activists drawn from all the districts of the state.
Five BJP leaders from the state were also elected for the National Council from parliamentary constituencies, which include Kashmira Singh from Jammu-Poonch, Vijay Sharma from Udhampur-Kathua, Fayaz Bhat from Srinagar, D.D. Singh from Baramulla and Sayeda Ladakhi from Leh.
Sat Sharma was greeted by outgoing President Jugal Kishore Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Nirmal Singh, MoS in PMO Dr. Jitendra Singh, BJP Senior leader Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Former President & MLC Ashok Khajuria, Member of Parliament Shamsher Singh Manhas, State General Secretary (Org). Ashok Kaul, Ministers Abdul Gani Kohli, Priya Sethi, Sunil Sharma, Vice Chairpersons Kuldeep Raj Gupta, Dr. Nirmal Kamal and Daljeet Singh, Senior leader Bansi Lal Bharti and others. He was also offered sword by Jammu East MLA Dr. Rajesh Gupta and a large number of party activists also garlanded him amid drumbeats and distribution of sweets.
Shyam Jaju, on this occasion, said that BJP is the party in which elections are held after every three years at all levels and party gets new faces, whereas most of the other parties are family based. He said that the responsibility showered on Sat Sharma will definitely prove to be beneficial for the party as he is an experienced, well educated and sincere worker for the last so many years.
Sat Sharma, while expressing gratitude to the party for giving him an opportunity to head the state unit of BJP, assured to work wholeheartedly for better coordination between the party and the state’s coalition government as well as taking together party activists in organizational and political activities.
Jugal Kishore Sharma expressed his thanks to the entire leadership of the party and his colleague state office bearers for cooperating him during his three year tenure as State President for smooth running of the party affairs. He also said that the achievements during his tenure in successive elections had been the result of the efforts put by each and every worker in the state.
Dr. Nirmal Singh said that with today’s unanimous election of State president, the inner democracy in the party have been further strengthened, which is indeed a matter of pride. He said that the day also reminds us of the long journey travelled during all these years while facing challenges and making sacrifices of a number of leaders, who deserves salutes. He expressed hope that the new state president will put more efforts to bring the party and the government more closer.
Dr. Jitendra Singh said that BJP is the only political party which follows a constitution and we are fortunate to be associated with such an organization which has its doors opened for every activist and even a poster boy or a tea seller can assume the highest organizational post in the party. He also spoke on the contribution of past leaders from the days of Praja Parishad to Jana Sangh and the present day BJP.
Ashok Khajuria said that no matter we are in coalition with PDP but our firm stand on our principles and ideology will never be compromised. He said that forming government was the mandate of the people and we have honored the verdict of the people.
Shamsher Singh Manhas said that the foundation of Praja Parishad was laid for some goals and we have been taking forward the same mission although under the leadership of one or the other with the guidance and blessings of the veterans. He expressed hope that the ability and experience of new state president will prove to be a boon for the organization.
Ashok Kaul briefed about the entire process of organizational elections in the state and said that the party has been able to form five out of the ten districts in Kashmir thereby covering 2200 polling booths. He said that it is a major achievement and result of the change in mindset of the Kashmir people.
BJP State Election Incharge Chander Mohan Gupta also presented the details about the whole exercise of electioneering at booth, Mandal and district levels across the state.
