Jammu, September 14: SC/ST Employees Association of Jammu University today called on Vice Chancellor and Registrar of the University on today to inform him about the partiality being meted out to them in the varsity.
The president of the SC/ST Employees Association RL Kaith said that the university is not taking the rights of SC and ST employees into consideration. It is evident from the seniority list of the employees issued by the Establishment Branch from time to time, no steps has been ever taken to implement a reservation policy for SC and ST employees.
As reported in a local daily, the SC/ST Employees Association pleaded that the roster points meant for SC/ST candidates seem to have been occupied by general category candidates which is completely against the law declared by The Honourable Supreme Court.
The members of associations also said that to ensure proper implementation of the policies and programmes of the Central Government for SC/ST, UGC has suggested forming of a standing committee by all the universities chaired by VC itself. The association put pressure on the formation of such a standing committee in the University to look into the matter of SC and ST employees. They said one such committee was constituted in 1992 by then VC Prof ML Lakhanpal under his chairmanship along with 11 other members, but the committee held no sitting since its constitution back then.
