Search operations launched in Katra following suspected movement


JAMMU: A alert was sounded on Monday near Jammu & Kashmir’s Katra Base Camp of Vaishno Devi Shrine following suspicious movement.

Katra police joined by paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force conducted searches in entire Katra town, the base camp of holy Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, and outskirts following inputs about presence of suspects.

Some suspects were seen moving near the base camp after which the security was stepped up, Katra town acts as a base camp for pilgrims visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Trikuta Hills.

According to official sources, the search operation was launched in the town and outskirts yesterday evening after a source input about presence of suspects in the town.

Searches continued till late tonight but no movement of any suspects was detected, he said adding that the search operation has been called off.

This was for the third time that the searches were conducted in the holy town following input regarding movement of suspects.

However, pilgrimage to Mata Vaishno Devi Ji shrine continued uninterrupted during searches.
