Rajouri, October 1: Search operation was launched near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kalsian area of Nowshera in Rajouri district in the early hours of the day after suspicious movement of some unidentified persons.
According to sources, the Pakistani army resorted to mortar and small arms firing for more than an hour in what could possibly be cover fire to the suspects, who could be terrorists.
“After exchange of fire on the LoC, the Army searched the entire area for any possible attempt by terrorists. Nothing suspicious was found after today’s search,” said an Army officer as quoted by the Tribune.
Rajouri Deputy Commissioner Shabir Ahmed Bhat instructed the Subdivisional Magistrates of Nowshera and Sunderbani and district officers to make every possible arrangement for residents of border areas in case of any emergency.
Residents of Lam, Laroka, Kampla, Jhangar, Sariya and Makri said they had made every possible arrangement for their migration in case of any emergency.
People had been purchasing necessary items in case they had to leave their homes for safer places. Directions had been issued by the civil administration to vacate villages within a range of five km from the LoC in both districts.
The Army advised residents of villages near the LoC not to venture out after 5 pm. It directed students to be careful as the Pakistani army might resort to unprovoked firing or mortar shelling.
The Army asked porters to leave Army units to avoid any fatality. It cancelled the leave of soldiers and officers as well.
“The leave of employees of the Health Department has been cancelled and they have been directed to report at their places of posting,” said Dr Mohd Younis, Chief Medical Officer.
“Block Medical Officers in border belts have been directed to make necessary arrangements for beds, medicines and ambulances at health centres situated near border areas in the district,” he said.
