Separatists call for a state-wide strike on June 17

Several separatist outfits in Jammu and Kashmir called for a state-wide strike on Wednesday to protest the recent killings in Sopore town of District Baramulla.

The strike was declared after a meeting between representatives of Hurriyat Conference was held. The meeting was
led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Yasin Malik-headed JKLF.

Spokesperson of the moderate Hurriyat denounced the killing of a shopkeeper in Sopore town by unidentified militants today and said that the Separatist leadership will not remain a mute spectator to these killing incidents. He added that the top separatist leaders including Mirwaiz, Geelani and Malik would visit Sopore on Friday to express solidarity with the local people.
