All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference( AJKPC), the frontline organization of elected panches and sarpanches today demanded setting up of a judicial commission to unmask the killers who are selectively targeting the innocent Panchayat members the state.
Anil Sharma, President All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference while condemning the killing of Sarpanch Ghulam Ahmad Bhat who was shot by gunmen in Wanpoh village of Kulgam on Thursday, said Ghulam Ahmad Bhat is the 9th Panchayat member who has been killed in violence against Panches and Sarpanches. ‘AJKPC shares the grief of his family and salute his martyrdom’, Sharma stated.
The AJKPC president accused the state government of being incompetent, he said that the administration has not only failed to protect the lives of the panchayat members but Omar government has also failed to catch the killers who are roaming free and mercilessly killing the elected representatives. “We demand a judicial panel in time bound manner to bring the truth into light that who is killing our Panchayat members and sponsoring these killers, whether the assassins are coming from across the border or they are locals, it is an act of terrorism or personal enemity, let the truth come into light ” Anil Said.
The AJKPC leader also condemned the state government for issuing different versions on each killing, sometime the Chief minister had claimed the killing of Panchayat members are result of personal enmity and local criminal issue while other time they say it as a terrorists act.
“ We the 33,000 elected panchayat members do not want to live in fear therefore want to know the truth which is only possible after a thorough probe by a Judicial commission under the chairmanship of a sitting High Court or Supreme Court Judge”. Anil Said. The AJKPC once again reiterated its demand of sufficient ex-gratia amount for the next kins of the martyr Panchayat members besides government employment for at least one family member.
