Shabir makes statement on Dengue outbreak in LA
SRINAGAR : Minister of State for Health Mr. Shabir Ahmad Khan today informed the LA that the Dengue cases are being reported in the Jammu division mostly in District Jammu and Samba. He said that as per the report submitted by the Director Health Services Jammu on 7th October 2013, there are 364 positive cases of Dengue in Jammu division.
As many as 115 cases in Jammu, 225 in Samba, 06 in Kathua, 03 in Rajouri, 01 in Reasi and 14 others whose address is yet to be ascertained have been reported, the Minister said adding that since the outbreak 3 deaths have occurred due to Dengue, one in Jammu and two in Samba.
The Minister said that since the number of cases in Jammu and Samba districts are showing increasing trend, the area specific initiatives and strategies have been devised to contain the outbreak, reduce mortality and morbidity.
He said to contain the spread of Dengue the department has constituted Rapid Response Teams at the District and Divisional level. In Jammu city, three teams have been constituted, he added. These teams are doing spray of insecticides during day time and fogging in the evening. The State Malariologist and Epidemiologist are supervising and monitoring the spray and fogging operations. He said that the District Administration and other departments are involved in spreading awareness about preventive measure, through print and electronic media.
He said Spray teams are visiting the area from where positive cases are detected for spraying insecticide for the mosquito control and teams are visiting the affected areas for identifications and presence of the vector i.e., mosquito and holding meetings with Sarpanchs and other public representatives.
The Minister said that samples are being collected in the designated hospitals, transported by department and being tested in the tertiary level laboratories. He said treatment of the cases is being provided in various hospitals of Jammu division. However, the complicated cases are treated in Government Hospital Gandhinagar, Sarwal and Government Medical College, Jammu. Additional facility of 40 beds is being created in Bhagwati Nagar Jammu shortly to take care of increased influx of patients, he added.
