Shah Faesal Stopped from Leaving India, Detained

New Delhi: IAS-officer-turned-politician Shah Faesal was detained at the Delhi Airport today and stopped from flying abroad. Faesal, a vocal critic of the Narendra Modi government’s decision to scrap the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcate the state, was on his way to Istanbul when he was sent back to Srinagar.

The politician had said on Twitter on Tuesday that Kashmir “needed a non-violent political mass movement for restoration of political rights”.

Yesterday, Faesal in a dejected tweeted had mourned the end of the ‘mainstream’ with the govt’s decision to revoke Jammu and Kashmir’s autonomy. “Kashmir will need a long, sustained, non-violent political mass movement for restoration of the political rights. Abolition of Article 370 has finished the mainstream. Constitutionalists are gone. So you can either be a stooge or a separatist now,” he had said.
