Asks officers to ensure speedy execution of restoration works
JAMMU : Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Sharma on thursday conducted an extensive tour of Samba and Kathua districts to assess the damage caused to the people due to recent rains and flash floods.
During the tour, the Minister visited various flood affected areas including Devika pul, Gahwal, Sanoora, Rajpura, Muthi Charru, Bai Nallah, Bhag Nallah, Chack Chabba in Samba district besides various border areas near LoC and along Ujh River including Salalpur, Sofra Chack, Kore Punnu Tille, Parole-Kore, Baniyari Muthura Chack, Chadwal, as well as local nallahs and major khads in Kathua district.
The Minister also inspected the construction work on Parole, Kore Punoo, Rajpura bridge.
The Minister also visited the spots which have suffered huge damage due to steep rise in water level of Devika and Basanter rivers besides Bai nallah. He asked the officers to redouble their efforts for early completion of these restoration works.
During his visit to Ujh, the Minister was informed that Chung Ghati upto Kot Punnu near border area besides Chabba Chack, Mai Chack, Nangyal, Jogian and adjoining areas have suffered huge damage due to these floods. He also inspected the temporary restoration works being done in these areas.
The Minister asked the local administration as well as panchayat members to work in coordination to help the affected people who have suffered loss to their land and crops. He instructed the flood control Chief Engineer to make a comprehensive plan for restoration of damaged parts of River Ujh. He assured that every possible help will be extended to the flood victims for their relief and rehabilitation.
The Minister directed the Addl DC, Kathua to ensure delivery of cash relief to the families of those who have lost their lives in these rains and floods.
Enroute, various deputations met the Minister and apprised him of their demands and problems seeking an immediate redressal to the same.
MLA Hirangar, Durga Dass, MLC Subash Gupta, Chief Engineers, PHE, K K Gupta, Chief Engineer, I&FC, Varinder Badyal, Chief Engineer, Ravi Tawi, H C Jerth, SEs PHE, I&FC Samba/Kathua and senior officers of various departments accompanied the Minister.
