Anger has swept across the Jammu region after a body of eight-year-old girl, who was missing for the last one week, was found near the jungles at Rasana village of Hira Nagar in Kathua district.
Parents of the girl had lodged a missing report in Hira Nagar police station seven days before when she did not return home at Kota village. On Wednesday, her body was found in the jungles of Rasana village, one and half kilometer away from her home.
The body was shifted to the district hospital Kathua where a board of doctors conducted the postmortem. Police said investigations have been put on the fast track to unravel the mystery.
“We can’t say what actually has happened at this stage. Investigation is on. She had left her home but did not return. We had accordingly lodged an FIR based on the application from her parents. We searched but could not trace her. Today her body was recovered. We have sent her body for postmortem”, said Suleiman Chaudhary, senior superintendent of police, Kathua.
Police said they are awaiting the medical report of the girl which will form the basis for the investigation. “We are looking into all angles. Investigation is on. We are waiting for the medical report. The postmortem has been conducted by the board of doctors”, said Chaudhary.
Massive protests rocked the area with people demanding the culprits be brought to book. Protesters also blocked the Jammu-Pathankote highway demanding justice for the girl. Later senior civil and police officers reached the spot and assured that the culprits will be arrested. On the assurances of the officers, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
“We have constituted special investigation team headed by Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Chadawal to probe this matter. We have also assured the people, who had blocked the highway, that the culprits will be brought to justice. We have also promised the compensation”, said Suresh Kumar, sub divisional magistrate, Hira Nagar
