Srinagar: In a shocking incident, students at Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir were lathi-charged for defending the national anthem on Thursday.
Boys of Government Model Boys’ Higher Secondary School alleged that an assistant commissioner (revenue) did not stop and stand while the national anthem was being played yesterday.
When they registered a protest against the government official, the students were allegedly caned.
The ACR had reportedly come to the school on a raid to check absenteeism. The National Anthem was playing when the officer arrived. However, he did not show any respect. This infuriated the teacher and students present there.
When students began protesting against the incident, police allegedly came and lathi-charged them.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered an enquiry into the incident.
