A 22-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her own father a day before her wedding. The incident took place on Thursday and the father reportedly killed the woman because she wanted to marry a man from a different caste.
Rajan, a resident of Poovathingal in Areekode, has been arrested by the police for stabbing his daughter Athira. She was in a relationship with Brajesh, an Army man from Koyilandi, who belonged to a different caste. Rajan was reportedly opposed to the relationship but had begrudgingly agreed to the marriage.
An argument broke out on Thursday between the father and the daughter over her marriage. Seeing that her father was in an inebriated condition, Athira ran out of her home into her neighbour’s house but her father followed her, knife in hand and stabbed her to death, reports the Times of India. She was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police said the father and daughter argued on Thursday over her marriage. Athira took shelter at a neighbour’s place, but Rajan followed her, dragged the woman and stabbed her. She was declared dead on arrival at a hospital. Manjeri police circle inspector N B Shaiju said Rajan was in an inebriated condition.
The father is currently in police custody.
