PATNA: A Show-cause notice issued to three IPS officers who were seen playing video games during a Bihar CM event.
On one hand chief minister Nitish Kumar was lecturing on stern enforcement of prohibition and drug abuse during a state level programme, few IPS officers of the state police were caught engrossed with their cellphones on Wednesday. One of the senior IPS officer was spotted playing games during the event which was recorded in a news channel’s camera.
The programme was of drug abuse and illicit trafficking organised by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of state police to observe the International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Along with the CM, DGP PK Thakur, chief secretary Anjani Kumar Singh, home department principal secretary Amir Subhani, CM’s chief secretary Chanchal Kumar and other officials were present on the dais, they all spoke on prohibition and drug abuse.
The chief minister on occasions in a bossy tone, told the police officers not to spare anyone on the issue of prohibition and tighten the screws of subordinates on prohibition and drug smuggling.
But one of the IPS officer was caught playing cellphone game while another junior officer sitting beside him was watching a photograph of US president Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump with Prime Minister Narendra Modi which had recently gone viral on social media.
Another IPS officer, senior to both, sitting beside the duo was also spotted in the video watching some photographs on social networking site.
“Liquor and drug are such things which not only destroys health, wealth and family but also casts an ill-effect on the nation. Money earned from drug smuggling were used for financing terrorism and other criminal activities. We had observed that opium cultivation, which was eventually destroyed, was common in Maoist affected districts and police should remain alert,” these were the words of DGP Thakur during which the IPS officer was found to be completely engrossed in playing games on his iPhone.
These officers were sitting at the back of the venue during the event. Two senior-most IPS officer, sitting at the front during the event beside the press gallery, were spotted sitting with their eyes closed for several minutes with tilted head. However, it was not known if they were ‘meditating’.
Meanwhile, ADG (Headquarter) SK Singhal while talking to newsmen said that such conduct was not expected from these senior officers. “They would be counselled,” he added.
