Sikh police officer saves Muslim man from being thrashed by a Mob – Watch viral video
A video is going viral showing a Sikh police officer saving a Muslim man from the clutches of a mob at a famous temple in Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, on Tuesday.
The officer, identified as Sub-Inspector Gagandeep Singh, got a few alerts indicating trouble in the area. Singh reached the temple and acted as a shield for the man when the crowd tried to thrash him.
The Muslim man was reportedly at the temple in Girija village with his Hindu girlfriend.
The video shows an angry crowd surrounding the man. As the mob tries to hit the man, Singh confronts the crowd all alone and protects him.Another police officer was also seen controlling the mob. The crowd later chants slogans against cops.
The clip has evoked sharp sentiments on Twitter, with many eminent personalities too hailing the officer as a hero.Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Lok Sabha MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma wrote on Twitter: “A Sikh cop posted in Ramnagar, Uttarakhand restored faith in humanity after he saved a Muslim man from a mob attack. Kudos to this officer, you are a true hero!”
Meanwhile, former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju tweeted: “It was heartening to see on Youtube the videos of a brave young Sikh police officer, Gagandeep Singh, saving the life of a Muslim youth who may have been lynched by a frenzied Hindutva mob had it not been for the courageous intervention of Gagandeep.”
The Muslim man and the Hindu woman were then taken to a police station. The woman was sent home with her parents.
