Sikhs condemn viral derogatory remarks by a Jammu youth on social media

Jammu, March 31: Various Sikh organisations yesterday condemned the alleged posting of derogatory remarks on Facebook against the Sikh religion by one Deepak Thakur of Jammu, presently based in Malaysia.

While briefing the media yesterday, Gurjeet Singh Honey, coordinator of the Sikh organisations, claimed that the issue of derogatory remarks on the Sikh religion, Sikh Gurus, Sikh history, Guru Granth Sahib and living Gurus by Deepak Thakur was taken up with the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) in a recently held joint meeting of the organisations.

He added that the entire matter was brought to the notice of the SSP, Jammu. Gurjeet said due to the swift action of the SSP, Jammu, and SP, South (in charge, Cyber Cell), the police had not only lodged an FIR but some of the associates of the main accused were arrested from different parts of Jammu and saved the situation for further worsening.

The Sikh organisations included Baba Banda Singh Bahadur International Awareness Group, Sikh Youth Welfare Front, Jammu, and Sikh Noujawan Sabha, Jammu.

The representatives of the Sikh organisations present in the press conference included Ajit Pal Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Pardoman Singh, Hardeep Singh, Gurvinder Singh, Amandeep Singh and Gurdeep Singh.
