Srinagar: Fresh snowfall in the higher reaches and rains in the plains on Tuesday brought down the night temperature in Jammu and Kashmir.
An official from local met department forecast light rain and snowfall for the next two days in the state.
“Weather is likely to remain disturbed for the next two days as we are expecting snow and rain at different places in Jammu and Kashmir,” a weather official told Media Sources.
“Because of fresh snowfall in the mountain region, the minimum temperature dropped to minus 0.5 degrees in Gulmarg on Tuesday.”
The minimum temperature was recorded at 6.1 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam on Tuesday. It was 8.5 degrees in Srinagar, 1.0 degrees in Kargil town and 1.1 degrees in Leh town of the Ladakh region.
Jammu city recorded the minimum temperature of 15.7 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. It was 15.8 in Katra, 8.7 in Bannihal, 10.7 in Batote and 9.2 in Bhaderwah towns of Jammu region.
Early winter has set in Kashmir Valley due to a western disturbance that remained active for four days in Jammu and Kashmir towards the end of October.
People have started protecting themselves from the cold weather by wearing woollen clothes.
Some of the tourists who come to the valley during this period especially to see the snow in the ski resort of Gulmarg are enjoying the not-so-harsh cold here.
“It is a great visual relief to see snow covered mountains all around when you land in Gulmarg. One should not miss this thrill,” said 32-year-old tourist, Meenakshi.
