Srinagar: A police officer from Srinagar has married a girl from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Their marriage was solemnised in Srinagar on Tuesday evening at a hotel where close relatives and friends of both families attended the function.
Bridegroom Owais Geelani, who is a Sub-Inspector from north Kashmir and posted in Srinagar, married Faiza Geelani, who hails from Muzzaffarabad in POK. The bride travelled all the way from Muzaffarabad to Srinagar, on the Caravan-e- Aman bus, on August 29 to tie the knot.
The two families are related to each other but were separated during the Partition.
The wedding was a low key affair as protests continue across the trouble-torn region, with the youth chanting pro-Azadi slogans even in the neighbourhood of the wedding venue. Had the things been normal, the marriage would have been solemnised in a big way at Bandipora which is the native place of Geelani.
Geelani’s father who is a retired SSP hopes that this wedding will bring peace in the valley and also end the hostilities between the two countries as the divided families are the worst victims of bitterness.
