Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant outfit on Monday claimed the responsibility of ongoing attack in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar that has so far left a CRPF constable dead and a policeman seriously wounded.

In a statement to GNS news agency, Lashkar chief Mehmood Shah said that LeT cadres have seized control of forces’ stronghold in Karan Nagar.

Militants armed with weapons were seen moving near CRPF camp in Karan Nagar around 4:30 am, CRPF PRO said. However, a CRPF soldier fired on them prompting them to take refuge in a nearby building, he added.
“Immediately search operation in the camp periphery was launched,” CRPF PRO Rajesh Yadav said.
The officer said that after several hours of search operation the militants were traced in a nearby building and accordingly an exchange of gunfire started between the two sides.
The gunfight was going on when reports last came in.
The gunfight comes two days after militants attacked an army camp in Jammu area killing five soldiers. A civilian was also killed in the attack.
