    RIGGED EVMS……SKEPTICAL MINDS…

A lot of hue and cry has been made over the last few days regarding the usage of EVMs in the election process. One can understand the human tendency that after losing in different spheres of life, human being generally in an effort to shift the blame or even work harder to achieve something, cry foul play, tend to find a problem within the system including social fabric, use of muscle power, money or even the technology.

However, when it comes to a party fighting elections for forming a government, boasting adequate wisdom to govern a state instead of pondering over the plausible reasons of defeat and preparing for the next elections, reasons silly excuse, which somehow does not go well with the public at large. In the present scenario where elections were held in five states out of which BJP became single largest party in two and Congress in three states. It may be mentioned here, that to explain the rationale, discussion has been categorically limited to single largest party and is not regarding who got the majority, won the elections and formed the Government.

Now coming to the actual question that boggles my mind every time I read a newspaper, watch TV News channels, interact with people, is “EVMs were rigged to help one particular party in UP & Uttarakhand”. Few political parties who lost the elections have alleged that EVMs were rigged to benefit BJP. On a lighter note, the places where previous governments were of Samajwadi Party and Congress respectively, these EVMs were rigged, although, the same EVMs could not be rigged in Punjab and Goa where BJP was a part of earlier government. Does it mean that Congress and Samajwadi party were instrumental in benefitting BJP by providing adequate infrastructure to BJP in winning seats by tampering EVMs; however, in return such support was also lent by BJP and aides to its opponents in helping the opponents to win or win more number of seats? Is this the political parties want us to understand have lost the elections.
Come on, we, the public, the voters are not so dumbfounded, we do understand the political aspirations and compulsions and accordingly we choose those who deliver. The logic of rigged EVMs thus does not hold good.

With the current allegations, it is now a well known phenomenon that political parties conduct in a very immature manner and can actually stoop so low that they will even criticize the platform of democracy. Instead of accepting defeat in a graceful manner and welcoming the public decision, parties are playing blame game. My only suggestion to political parties is to work on ground level, read the sentiments of public, provide development as the main agenda over and above the issues related to caste, creed and religion will only yield the desired results. Everyone including political parties must respect the democracy and people’s mandate, as mocking the Public mandate will not serve the purpose as public understands, by doing so and the good work you may come again in power.
