SRINAGAR, JUNE 10: The Minister for Public Health Engineering, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sukhnandan Kumar Choudhary today ordered immediate de-silting of Flood Spill Channel to avert any future flood threat to Srinagar and its adjoining areas. The de-silting of Flood Spill Channel is being carried out by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department in a phased manner and in the first phase dredging would start on 7 Km patch from Bemina Bund to Narbal.
At Hajj House, the Ministers inspected earth filling work of Bund which was damaged due to September 2014 floods. They were informed that one and half kilometre has been completed so far while as the filling work on another part is in progress. They also instructed for removal of encroachments on the banks of flood channel.
The Ministers visited breach site of Flood Channel at Shariefabad also. They instructed the authorities to float tenders for construction of bridge for which a proposal for an amount of Rs 20.00 crore has already been submitted to the government for providing funds.
