Swachta Abhiyan held at Raghunath Bazaar


JAMMU:  Jammu Heritage Society (JHS) and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) jointly organized Swachta Abhiyan (Sanitation Drive) at historic Raghunath Bazaar, here today.
The drive was held in collaboration with the School of Hospitality and Tourism Studies of Jammu University and Raghunath Bazaar Businessmen Association (RBBA), UCO Bank Raghunath Bazaar, Jammu had sponsored the event.
The nine prominent personalities (nav-rattan) selected by the heritage society from across various fields along with the members of the association and JHS went around the bazaar, lifted the garbage from the road and put it in the dustbins. These nine personalities included Soujanya Sharma, Director Information, R. K. Varma, Director Tourism Jammu, Maj Gen R. S. Jamwal, Dharmarth Trust President, Balwant Thakur, Regional Director of ICCR-Jammu, Ravinder Singh Jamwal, well known sculptor, Er. Darshan Gupta, Structural de-signer of fame, Suman Gupta, artist, Vijay Anand, artist and Sh. Vijay Atri, well known name in the field of art, culture and literature.
The programme was led by JMC Commissioner Kiran Wattal, Health Officer Dr. Mohd Salim Khan and Jammu Heritage Society (Regd) members, RBBA members and other dignitaries present on the occasion assisted the nine in the token cleanliness drive.
The drive to continue for few months to come will be led by the above nine person along with Kiran Wattal JMC Commissioner, Dr. Mohammad Salim Khan JMC Health Officer, Dr. Parikshit Singh Manhas, Jammu University Professor, Dr. Suvidha Khanna, Jammu University Professor, M. L. Sharma, Senior Manager UCO Bank, Om Prakesh Mahajan Chairman of JIIS and Baldev Khullar President of RBBA. Students of Jammu University will also be the part of the drive.
The drive began with the JU students distributing 320 dustbins among the shopkeepers from Raghunath Chowk to City Chowk end of the market.
The RBBA pledged to continue cleaning the bazaar between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on every Monday in the weeks to come.
