Teacher gets 7 years in rape case

Reasi, October 01: Sessions Court Reasi on Friday sentenced a teacher  7 years Rigorous Imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 for committing rape on 8th class student in 2010.
On June 26, 2010 the accused teacher Jarnail Singh resident of Shikari Tehsil Mahore (district Reasi) called the victim to his house on the pretext of giving her books. As she entered inside the house of the accused, he closed the door of the room and made her to lie down on the floor and raped her. She tried to rescue herself but the accused forcefully imposed himself on her. Thereafter, she was threatened by the accused that in case she raised her voice he would throw her out of the school.
Initially, she did not disclose the incident to anybody neither she attended the school for few days. It was only after her mother inquired about the reason, she narrated the entire incident.
Her father produced her in the court on August 1, 2010 and filed a written complaint in the Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Mahore, which was forwarded to SHO Police Station Mahore in terms of section 156(3) of the CrPC.
On the basis of the report Police registered FIR No.77/2010 u/s 376 RPC.
In his Judgment, Sessions Judge Reasi   observed that teachers have been an important part of everyone’s life. The role of the teacher in making each one of us a better person can’t be denied. A teacher if turns to be a molester, the consequences and its impact on the society could be horrible. It would shake the faith of general public in such a relationship. With these observations court sentenced the accused for 7 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 25000 which would be paid to the victim as compensation.
