TELL THE NEXT CM Aditya Sharma – While a large majority wants the Article 370 scrapped due to the domination of Kashmir in every aspect of public and even private life, a section in Kashmir is also dissatisfied with the article.

More freedom and more autonomy is desired by the residents, ironical to the fact that state leadership itself wants to get away with the hold of Central Government on dealing with matters inside the state.
A large population of Jammu though, wants the Article 370 to be abrogated as it perpetuates regional hegemony and control over financial and political resources. The people here believe that the provision has been beneficial only to a specific section of the state that is confined only to the Valley. The rest of the population have sidelined.
With Jammu and Kashmir being a heterogeneous state, apart from Muslims there is a large population of hindus, Gujjars, Bakkarwals and Ladakhis who have been left out in the political and economic scheme of things as everything has been dominated by Kashmir valley. A large population of SCs, STs and OBCs have been deprived of the reservation benefits. Instead, the reservation is being misused by the rich and influential families which stay in cities to avail benefits in government services.
Also, the article ensures that the State Government gives little thought to empower local self government institutions like municipal bodies and panchayats.
The article has also resulted in huge disparity in allocation of resources. While Kashmir gets 65 to 70 percent of the yearly budget and Jammu and Ladakh account for mere 30 per cent. A number of laws such as Wealth Tax, Gift Tax and Urban Land Ceiling Act and intermarriage are also inapplicable.
