An officer in Indian Army, Lt Ummer Fayaz, was found dead with multiple bullet injuries in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday evening.
Terrorists were informed about Lt Ummer’s whereabouts by locals in Kashmir He was on leave to attend a function of a relative.
This brave Army officer was only 22 when he was killed by terrorists at the Herman area, Shopian district in the rife-torn Kashmir Valley. Sources say that it was the locals who tipped off the terrorists about the brave soldier of India. Lt Umar Fayaz was abducted by terrorists and killed at Shopian.

Sources also say that the villagers had told the terrorists that he was an Army officer and that he was on leave. The terrorists then abducted him on Tuesday and killed him. There are some unverified reports that also suggest that he was killed in public view at a bus-stand. His body was found with bullet marks.

According to reports, stone-pelters on Wednesday targetted funeral procession of an Army officer from Kashmir, who was abducted and shot dead by militants in Shopian district.
Sources suggested that firing could also be heard in the procession.

Born in 1994 in Kulgam located in Kashmir, Lt. Fayaz was stationed at Akhnoor.
His father is an apple farmer.
He would turn 23 on his birthday on 8th June 2017.
Lt. Fayaz had qualified NDA exam in 2015 and went to IMA, Dehradun for military training.
He was commissioned Rajputana Rifles in December 2016.
He was a lieutenant in the Delta Squadron of 129th course of NDA.
He was chosen for the Young Officer’s Course that prepares a recruit to take on the job of a field commander directly from NDA.
The six-month-long courses are held at the Infantry School, Mhow and Commando School, Belgaum.
He was likely to go to Mhow in September to attend – Young Officer’s Course for his elevation as a platoon and company commander.
Lt. Fayaz was the captain of the hockey team at National Defence Academy.
He was an excellent volleyball player as well.
Lt. Fayaz was popular among his friends in his village.
Lt. Umar Fayaz was abducted last night by suspected militants and murdered in cold blood. He was shot twice.
His body has been taken to hospital in Shopian for a post-mortem and will be later taken to his village for burial with military honours.
