The Practice of Darbar Move and the neglect on the capitals
By Citizen Journalist: Hunny
Jammu: Darbar Move is a bi-annual exercise in which the Secretariat shifts from Jammu to Srinagar during the Summers and from Srinagar to Jammu during Winters. This practice was started during the time of the Maharajas about a century and a half ago ago.
The practice of Darbar Move was started by the Maharajas to avoid the extreme summer conditions in Jammu region and similarly to be safe of the harsh winters in Kashmir valley. But, this Darbar Move also played an important role to give equitable justice to both the regions of the state.
Ironically, when the darbar shifts from Jammu to Srinagar during Summer the problems of the people of Jammu region start and prime among them is the unscheduled power curtailments, shortage of drinking water. When the Darbar shifts from Srinagar to Jammu during winter, the lives of the people also get affected when there is heavy snowfall, extreme winter cold and shortages of essentials of life hit the Valley.
The government must try to deliver the basic amenities to the people so that they do not have to face the problems after the Darbar moves from one capital to the other
