Srinagar, February 10: E-commerce website called ‘Kashmir Box’ was launched in November 2011 with a vision to free the artists of Kashmiri handicrafts and other local products from the manipulations of the middlemen. Now after a span of four years, the website is associated with a total of 2,500 artisans and they have also reached the global marketplace along with the brand.
With the help of these over 2,500 artisans who are associated with Kashmir Box directly or indirectly, Muheet Mehraj, Founder and CEO of the Kashmir Box, has managed to the reach the markets of Europe, Gulf and the US. Kashmir Box has showcased products made by local artisans, craftsmen, producers and creative entrepreneurs to the world which is a big achievement.
International brands like Dorothy Perkins and Bollywood fashion designers, such as Anita Dongre are the clients of this Kashmir based e-commerce site. The authentic Kashmiri products like Pashmina shawls, saffron and even wazwan is available on Kashmir box.
Not only serving as a getaway for Kashmir Handicraft but the portal has also managed to free the artisans associated with it of middlemen and helped creating their own brand.
Mehraj says that earlier most of the profits were eaten up by the middleman but with the launch of Kashmir box these artisans and partners get to sell their products with their own brand names, which has empowered them by giving them a sense of accomplishment and pride.
Very recently, Kashmir Box had showcased nearly around 50 products at the ‘NY Now’ in the US and now they will soon be opening an office comprising of special designs suitable for the US market.
