Srinagar, February 13: With the increase in precipitation in valley in the month of February, the winter tourism in Kashmir is likely to reach the peak this month.
According to the Director of Kashmir Tourism, Mahmood Ahmad Shah, the snow pattern in Kashmir has shifted towards February in the last 15 years and the month has become the best time to hold winter sports events in Kashmir.
He added that the department is mulling to hold national ski championship, Gulmarg derby, snow cycling and cross-country run in Gulmarg this month.
As the upper reaches received heavy snowfall on Friday and the state of Himachal Pradesh is dry at present as well, the department is now hopeful that trigger footfall in the Kashmir.
Also, the Director of Meteorological Department, Sonum Lotus has also claimed that the weather of Kashmir is going to be ‘erratic’ and not ‘’completely dry’’ this month. Like last two years, February will receive more snow.
With enough snow that had accumulated in the upper reaches, adventure sports activities such as heli-skiing will start in Gulmarg, Mahmood Ahmad Shah said.
Besides domestic tourists, the department is also hoping that more foreign tourists would arrive for adventure sports activities.
Despite this, there are a number of road shows and events going to held across the country to attract domestic tourists and promoting adventure sports activities such as heli-skiing in Gulmarg.
