M P IsharJAMMU – A three days’ workshop for working journalist of Jammu Province was inaugurated today by Prof. Ali Javed, Former Director National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, Ministry of HRD. The three day workshop is being organized by National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, Ministry of HRD in collaboration with Centre for Professional Studies in Urdu, University of Jammu. About 40 working Journalist belonging to different Newspapers of Jammu Province are participating in the workshop. Prof. M.P. In his presidential address Prof. M.P. Singh Ishar thanked National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, Ministry of HRD for choosing Jammu University for organizing this event .Prof Ishar hoped that the workshop and other activities that had been planned would provide media practitioners time for sober reflections so that collectively as professionals re-affirm their commitment to the ethics of the profession.

“It is the only way we can re-assure the public of our determination to play our watchdog role in the society without fear or favour” he added.

Prof Ishar further said media practitioners should ensure accuracy, balance and fairness in their work and provide comprehensive information to enable the citizenry make informed choice and decisions.He said the workshop would help create awareness on the need for media practitioners to strive without compromise and any inducement to improve on ethics and professionalism.

In his address Prof.Ali Javed congratulated NCPUL & Centre for Professional Studies for organizing a workshop for working journalists of Jammu Province & hoped that these types of programmes will be organized in future also. Prof. Ali Javed also lauded the efforts of Jammu University Vice Chancellor Prof.M.P Singh Ishar and Prof.Shohab Inayat Malik for their efforts for the Promotion of Urdu language. Prof. Ali Javed in detail threw light on the Aims and Objectives of Journalism. He said that Journalism is the pillar of the democracy, we are living in the democratic country, therefore, the journalist should use his pen to strengthen democracy. A true Journalist should be impartial and realistic. He informed that that National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language is organizing different types of programmes in the country, this is the 1st attempt in Jammu university regarding the Journalism. In near future National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language will organize more and more programmes in Jammu University. He informed that already Rs.1 lakh has been sanctioned to Kishtwar Campus for organizing a National Seminar on the topic ‘Impact of Urdu language on Kashmiri Language’. Beside Prof. Manzar Azmi memorial lecture has also been sanctioned to the Department of Urdu, University of Jammu. Prof. Ali Javed said that workshop would provide a platform to know about the editorial writing, News writing, headlines and other important features of Journalism and would interact with the experienced Journalist of the country.

Asaf Malik presented a paper on Mantoo Number and described it most important for Urdu students from which they can learn more and more regarding the art of Sadat Hassan Manto.Earlier in his welcome address Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik spoke in detail about the objectives of the Workshop. Dr. Mohd Reyaz Ahmed conducted the proceeding of the programme while vote of thanks was presented by Prof SukhChain Singh, Head, Dept of Urdu. Among others Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs, Jai Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary to Vice-Chancellor,Dr. Farhat Rizvi from Rashtriya Shora Delhi, Khursheed Kazmi, Sham Talib, Scholars, Students and Staff were also present on the occasion
