Srinagar: A 7 years old girl child from Batpora area of Haihama in Kupwara died on Wednesday after she was hit by a bullet during an encounter between government forces and militants.
Kaneeza (7) daughter of Khushi Mohammad Chichi was hospitalized where she succumbed.
Police said that a minor girl namely Kaneeza and a minor boy Faisal were injured after they were hit by “stray bullets more than 100 meters away from the encounter site”.
“They were shifted to hospital for treatment where the girl succumbed to her injuries,” police said in a statement adding the boy has been referred to Srinagar and his condition is stable so far.
Three militants were killed and a police constable sustained injuries in a fierce encounter in the frontier district of Kupwara on Wednesday, official sources said.
“Three militants have been killed and the sanitization operation was underway,” Defence spokesman in Srinagar told Kashmir Reader.
The gunfight had started early in the morning in Hyhama area of the north district after army and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police, on a tip-off about the presence of militants, launched a search operation.
A policeman was injured in the initial firing by the militants.
