Kathua: In Mahanpur tehsil of Kathua district, a gun was fired accidentally by children while they were playing and it killed a three-year-old. The minor killed has been identified as Ridhima, is the daughter of Angrez Singh.
Ridhima lived with her parents in Jammu and was visiting her paternal grandparents for a few days. On Thursday, her mother was suddenly taken ill and her father brought her mother to Jammu for checkup. Meanwhile, Ridhima was with her grandfather, Gian Chand, and uncle and aunt. In the evening, around 5:30 p.m, when Ridhima was playing with other neighborhood kids on the porch of her grandfather’s house, one of the kids, who was just 10 years old, happened to find a gun inside the house. The gun was licensed and belonged to her grandfather.
Without having a clue, the boy pulled the trigger. Ridhima was standing right next to the gun and the flare of the bullet landed on her stomach. Hearing a gun fire, her grandfather along with her uncle and aunt rushed towards her. They were traumatized to see Ridhima covered in blood.
She was taken to Mahanpur Primary Health Center, from where around 8 p.m the doctosr referred her to Kathua District Hospital owing to her deteriorating condition. While the family was on their way to the hospital, she passed away near Lakhanpur.
According to the Basholi Police Station, an FIR bearing no.46 with section 337 (negligence) and as per 30 Arms Acts, a case has been filed against Gian Chand, since the gun was licensed to his name. The police have handed over the body to the family after the postmortem was conducted.
The parents are taken aback with the incident and the entire village is mourning the death of the little girl.
