The gunfight between militants and government forces that began today morning has ended with the killing of three militants and two forces’ personnel. Two soldiers were injured in the firefight.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, SP Pani told Greater Kashmir that the gunfight has ended. “However, searches are still going on in the area,” he said.
Local and police sources said that all three militants who had earlier fled after exchanging fire with the forces were trapped during a joint operation launched by the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Lam forest area of Tral.
During the gunfight that lasted for many hours, all three militants were killed. “Two among the slain are foreigners while the third one is believed to be a local,” said an official
He said that all the bodies of the militants have been recovered along with as many AK-rifles.
IGP Kashmir Range SP Pani said the slain seem to be associated with the Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit.
Sepoy Ajay Kumar of 42 RR, who was injured in the initial firing exchange, succumbed to his injuries at Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Badami Bagh Cantonment area here.
Latif Gujar of Jammu and Kashmir Police also succumbed to injuries. Two other soldiers injured in the gunfight have been hospitalized
