Two arrested for murder of PDP leader


Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police Friday claimed to have arrested two persons and seized the vehicle which was used in the murder of ruling Peoples Democratic Party leader in South Kashmir district of Pulwama last month.

PDP district president Abdul Gani Dar was shot dead by gunmen at village Pahoo when he was on his way to Srinagar on April 24. Superintendent of Police Pulwama Rayees Ahmad said immediately after the murder, a special team was constituted. During the investigation, militants involved in the crime were identified and police finally seized the vehicle which was used to follow Dar.

The driver of the vehicle was also arrested who has confessed that he followed Dar, who stopped his vehicle at the main road and later fired at him in the nearby fields. Dar was immediately shifted to Srinagar hospital where he was declared brought dead. He said two militants have been arrested and investigation was still going on. The SP said militants involved in recent bank robberies in South Kashmir were also involved.
