Two different dates for board examinations; students baffled

Srinagar, Sept 22: The declaration of two different dates by Education Minister and Jammu and Kashmir State Board of School Education (BOSE) has created confusion among the students of the Valley.

The Education Minister Naeem Akhtar on September 17 announced that the annual examinations in Kashmir will be held on time. He also ruled out any possibility of delaying the examination schedule due to the prevailing unrest in Valley.

” Examinations would be held as per schedule and there will be no change the academic calendar, said the Minister.

However, on JKBOSE rescheduled the annual examination for Class 10 and 12 in Kashmir division to November from October.

“In view of the prevailing situation, the BOSE has decided to reschedule the annual examination for Class 10 and 12 in Kashmir division. The examination for both 10 and 12 classes will be conducted in second week of November instead the first week of October for Class 10 and third week of October for Class 12,” an official spokesman said, quoting a notification issued by the Board.

As per the previous schedule the examination for class 10th was to be conducted in the first week of October 2016 while for class 12th the examination was to be conducted in the third week of October 2016.

Such an opposing announcements and statements have baffled the students and their parents.

There are number of other parents who were much stressed after education minister’s statement. Since they had sent their children outside the state, they had to book last minute tickets to get them back as they were expecting exams to be held in October’s first week as per the schedule.
