Two Harkatul Mujahideen militants held in North Kashmir’s Handwara area, police


SRINAGAR, Aug 14 : Police today claimed to have arrested two militants from Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

 A police officer told news agency GNS that acting on a specific information about the movement of the suspected persons in the area, a joint team of Handwara Police, 21 RR and 92 bn CRPF during a search operation apprehended two militants in Handwara.
The officer identified the militants as Younis Ahmed Mir (19) @Sarfraz S/O Bashir Ahmed Mir R/O Sabdan Galwan Pura and Tahir -ul-Islam @Sajad Afgani (21) S/O Bashir Ahmed R/O Muloor, Tohed Abad, Shaltang,  Srinagar.
Both militants belong Harkatul Mujahideen outfit, the officer said.
He said that a case in this regard has been registered and further investigations taken up. (GNS)
Meanwhile,high alert has been imposed across the Kashmir Valley ahead of the India’s Independence Day on Tuesday, amid reports of a grenade-lobbying incident taking place recently.
Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid said that such incidents happen there, but they will ensure that the August 15 celebrations go well.
“We have taken all the precautions and sufficient deployments have been made. I am sure August 15 will pass off peacefully and well-attended,” he added.
India celebrates its 70th Independence Day on August 15 – Tuesday.
