Two men detained for trying to ‘help’ cop join militancy

Srinagar, February 12: Two men have been detained by Jammu and Kashmir Police from Budgam district of central Kashmir for being in touch with the police follower who decamped with a rifle last week.

As per reports in a local daily, the police follower was identified as Riyaz Ahmed who decamped from a police station in Srinagar last week and was later arrested. The other detained men are the residents of Kondoora in the Beerwah area of Budgam named Farooq Ahmad and Gulzar Parra.

The police is suspecting that the duo were in touch with Riyaz Ahmed to help his escape from Police station in order to join the militant outfit, Lashkar-e-Toiba. At present both the men are being questioned.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Police follower Riyaz was the resident of Khan Sahib area of Budgam district. He had escaped from Rainawari police station located in Srinagar’s old city on February 06 along with a rifle of police constable Showkat Ahmed. He was arrested on February 07 from the Khan Sahib. The police has also recovered the weapon stolen by him which he had kept at another place.
