Two Muslim league leaders booked for cop’s murder

Srinagar, October 21: While investigating the murder case of top counter-insurgency police officer, Altaf Ahmed ‘Laptop’, two leaders of Masarat Alam’s Muslim League have been booked by Jammu and Kashmir Police.

As per media reports, The two detained leaders have been identified as Showket Hakeem (general secretary of the Muslim League) and Mehraj-ud-din. Both are the residents of the Hajin area of Bandipora district. The police have arrested both on the basis of suspicion after the information provided during the interrogation of a truck driver alleged to have ferried the militants including Abu Qasim, the mastermind of the Udhampur attack.

It is pertinent to mention here that the department’s top counter-insurgency police officer, Altaf Ahmed Dar was killed in an attack in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on October 7. The matter is suspected to be a planned murder and the police have launched a massive investigation in the case.

According to the Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Shabir, “The investigation into the case is going on in full swing and we have booked both the leaders of Muslim League under Section 302 of the Ranbir Penal Code. There are going to be many more arrest during the course of investigation.”
