Two policemen resign in Sopore after threats from separatists

Two Special Police Officers (SPOs), identified as Wasim Ahmad and Ramees Ahmad, made public announcement of quitting their job in Behrampora village of Sopore this afternoon and released a video of the same.

Both the SPOs were associated with the SOG of police that carries out anti-militancy operations in the state. The resignation of the two policemen comes two days after over 20 members of pro-India parties made a similar announcement in Rahmoo village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

In a video that instantly went viral, one of the SPOs alleged that his family has had to face consequences of his being in the police.

Wasim Ahmad also states in the video that mobs have tried to burn his house down and inflict injury on his family members. He then goes on to say that he is leaving the police job because he is the lone support for his family.
