Update at 2:00pm – Latest reports have confirmed that three girls had been washed away and Two of them have died. Minakshi devi (9), student of 4th class of Blue Bird School d/o Rudi Ram r/o Janipur and a second girl Sakshi Devi (8-9) a student of Vidya Jyoti School drowned at Daily Excelsior Lane in Janipur. Both Dead bodies have been fished out from the same spot and kept in mortuary of GMC Jammu.
U4UVoice, spoke to the mother of the deceased girl Meenakshi. The teary-eyed Mother explained that Meenakshi along with her elder sister were getting ready for school. Since it was raining, the lane outside their home was flooded and both the sisters walked outside under one umbrella.
Soon after a car came from behind and the girls moved the side where the flow of the water was stronger. Both of the girls slipped into the drain and a youth, Sunny, who was also present on spot managed to save the life of the elder sister by pulling her out immediately.
Meenakshi’s hand was sticking out for long but the flow of the water was so strong that she could not be saved.
U4UVoice also spoke to Sunny who said, “I managed to pull one girl out to safety and got injured in the process myself. I tried still to run along with the slippery road with water gushing down, but could not save the younger sister. Her body was found with the body of another school girl from Vidya Jyoti School while Meenakshi was from Blue Bird.”
U4UVoice also spoke to the mother of the second deceased girl Sakshi Devi about the incident. “Sakshi had left for the school earlier today and at 8am in the morning and since it was raining heavily, I decided to go looking for her if she had reached her school safely. I spoke to the principal who said that she had not reached. I decided to rush back home to see if she had maybe returned home and she did not. I found out later that her body was found with another girl from this lane.”
The administration has promised relief money of Rs 4 Lakh each to the families of the deceased.
