Udhampur: District Udhampur is set to become the first district in the state to have ‘City Advisory Board’ informed District Development Commissioner Niraj Kumar here today. He added that such a board aimed at building a protective environment for children in difficult circumstances as well as other vulnerable children through government and NGO partnership. Kumar said the main objective of constituting the board was to ensure that there were adequate services in the district for care and protection of the children in need, planning and training strategies for the allied system as part of the national initiatives for child protection, suggesting measures to address problems and issues faced by the ‘Childline’ and ensuring coordination between the government departments and NGOs.

The Deputy Commissioner has directed the Labour Commissioner to provide the count of child labourers in the district so that they could be rehabilitated. The DC has also asked the district social welfare officer to identify a suitable site for the construction of rehab centres/observation homes for rehabilitating these children.
