JAMMU, NOVEMBER 04 – Director Urban Local Bodies, Jammu, Soujanya Sharma, conducted an extensive tour of Billawar, Basholi and Lakhanpur towns and reviewed the functioning of the Municipal Committees there.
During his two day visit, he visited various Commercial and public projects being developed under Self Finance Schemes.
Stressing on timeline completion of the projects, Soujanya issued directions to the Execution Agencies/Officers to follow prescribed specifications in the work. He instructed the Executive Officers to develop commercially viable projects and emphasized that the Municipalities should make efforts to become self sustaining. He directed MCs to identify land so that commercial projects are conceived and revenue is generated to make the Urban bodies earning Organizations to enable these to take up developmental works of the area.
Besides this the Sanitation Scenario prevailing in these MCs was also reviewed and instructions were given to concerned Executive Officer to start one week cleanliness drive from Nov 12 to Nov 19, 2015. He also directed to carryout fogging of areas to combat the dengue and other viral diseases. He also said that the genuine demands of employees would be given due consideration. Instructions were issued to Executive Officers to use sufficient funds raised on the own resources on street lights. He said that the assistance in this regard shall also be provided by Directorate.
At Municipal Committee Billawar, he inspected the ongoing as well as proposed project sites including, site for construction of 130 kiosks near bus stand, the dormitory block along with toilet complex, renovation of existing Municipal shops near lower Shiv temple with the consent of owners, renovation of Community hall alongwith interiors and macadamization of matador stand in Ward No 1 to avoid traffic congestion in the town.
Strict instructions were issued to the concerned Engineering staff to make matador stand functional by March 2016.
Reviewing the functioning of Municipal Committee Bashoili, he directed Engineering staff to fence the land measuring about 3 kanals near PWD Store in Ward No. 11. He also called for outsourcing of community hall after making proper arrangements like drinking water and electricity.
He also discussed the proposal for construction of shops adjoining painting center and a reading room over the shopping complex, proposed shopping complex at existing Municipal Committee office site, cleaning and beautification of existing pond alongwith provision of garden furniture and fountains in the pond.
The director issued strict instructions to Lakhanpur MC Executive Officer to carryon sanitation work on regular basis and sanitation drive during night hours. Decision was taken to construct kiosks for road side vendors, while the Executive Officer was asked to collect the water charges from all the beneficiaries strictly as per the rates fixed by the PHE department.
Various deputations were attended by the Director and instructions were given to the concerned staff to take care of genuine demands of general public without failure.
