Union Power Ministry not happy with T&D losses in state


Jammu, May 11: The Union Power Ministry has again warned the state government about its failure to curb transmission and distribution losses in the Power sector which is the highest in the country. The sources said that there was a huge pressure on the state government to check the pilferage and improve the revenue realization in the state. The sources said that the Jammu region has shown an improvement in containing the distribution losses but in Kashmir region it is a difficult task.

The sources added that the T&D loss in Kashmir is 64 percent and in Jammu it is 41 percent. The overall T&D loss is about 54 percent for the state which is more than 30 percent. The PDD Department has realised Rs. 1,750 crore for the year 2014-15 where as the revenue realization target was fixed Rs. 3,508.62 crore which is less than the target fixed.

Chief Engineer (Jammu) Sehnaz Goni said that in Jammu the some defaulters have come forward to clear their dues and the people have started to cooperate with the department but more new things needs to be done in this regard.

An official from Kashmir said that the agitations in the Valley is a major reason as why PDD failed to implement its project in Valley.
