Unique venture of Indian army, send football team to Kolkata
Srinagar: A Capacity Building Tour of youth from Kashmir was flagged off from Srinagar under the aegis of Chinar Corps of the Indian Army. A group of 20 potential footballers selected during Kupwara Football Cup conducted in August 2014, are being sent to get professional exposure in football with the leading Football Clubs of Kolkata. The footballers commenced their trip from Chinar corps headquarter after a brief ceremony presided over by Brig Jagdeep Singh today.
The itinerary of the tour is packed with multitude of exposures to the various facts of football as a sport including a series of matches, interaction with expert players with local as well as national level football clubs like East Bengal Football Club. The tour will provide an opportunity to the young players not only to hone their football skills, but also witness the mechanics of being trained as an international footballer.
The team representing the Kupwara town and surrounding areas has been picked up based on the talent exhibited during Kupwara Football Cup (KFC), held in the month of Aug last year. The tournament was organised based on Collaborative Model with Army providing back up support to the District Youth and Sports Dept to take on the organisational part. Considering the enthusiasm of the locals towards this sport, during the prize distribution ceremony of KFC 2014, the Corps Commander, Chinar Corps had promised that an opportunity will be given for the budding talent of the area to get quality exposure with the leading football clubs of Kolkata. In pursuance of the same, this tour was planned to enhance the sporting skills as well as to help the young sportsperson to identify new are avenues in sports.
