Vaishno Devi is receiving less than usual rainfall


Jammu, Sept 18: According to the statistics of Metrological Department, there has been a major climatic change in the hilly as well as plain areas of Jammu region.

Scientists are saying that over the past few years, hilly areas have become increasingly warm and hot whereas plain areas have become cooler.

The snow covered peaks of Batote are melting quickly because of increase in temperature. While the temperature in Jammu city, Rajouri and Katra has comparatively come down.

When it comes to rainfall, all the areas of Jammu division are sailing in the same boat, excluding Banihal, where an increase in the rainfall has been witnessed.


Katra which is known as Cherrapunji of Jammu and Kashmir has observered a drastic decline in the rainfall. Vaishno Devi which is 13.5 km from Katra, also received less than average rainfall this year.

Other areas like Rajouri, Bhaderwah and Batote are also in the list.
